A clear, confident start.

Trézor.io/Start™® — Starting Up™ Your Device | Trezor®®

A Trezor hardware wallet gives you a safer place to protect the keys that control your cryptocurrency. Unlike an exchange account, it keeps those keys offline and asks you to confirm important actions on the device itself. Getting started is straightforward, even if this is your first wallet. Follow each step at your own pace, and keep your recovery phrase private from the moment you first see it during setup.

Your recovery phrase stays yours. Never share it.

THE SETUP

A few careful steps.
More confidence.

Give yourself a quiet moment to set up your wallet. You are in control at every step.

01

Start from a trusted source

Begin with a genuine device purchased directly from Trezor or an authorized seller. Before connecting it, inspect the packaging and device for signs of tampering. Visit trezor.io/start by typing the address yourself, then choose your model. The official onboarding page guides you to Trezor Suite, the companion app used to initialize your wallet, install firmware, and manage supported coins. Avoid setup links from unsolicited messages or advertisements. Verify the source.

02

Connect and create a PIN

Connect the wallet to your computer or phone using the supplied cable, then open the setup instructions. Trezor Suite may ask permission to install firmware; follow on-screen prompts and verify actions on the device. A device PIN helps prevent someone nearby from opening it. Create a PIN that is difficult to guess, avoid birthdays, and never share it. If your model supports passphrases, learn how they work before enabling one.

03

Back up your recovery phrase

During setup, your Trezor creates a recovery seed, usually shown as a sequence of words. This phrase is the backup to your wallet: anyone who obtains it may control the assets it protects. Write it down in the order displayed, using the recovery card. Check each word carefully, then store the card somewhere private, dry, and secure. Never photograph it, save it in cloud storage, or enter it into a website.

KEEP IT YOURS

Security is a habit,
not a setting.

04

Confirm your backup safely

Some models ask you to confirm that you recorded the seed by selecting words on the screen. Treat this check as an important security step, not a formality. Trezor support will never request your recovery phrase, and legitimate setup does not require you to type it into a computer, phone, or chat. If a screen or person asks for it, stop and verify instructions through official support channels before continuing.

05

Verify every address

After initialization, install Trezor Suite only from Trezor’s official website or verified app store listing. Explore the portfolio view and learn how to receive funds before sending anything. To receive cryptocurrency, select the correct asset and network, generate an address, and compare the address on your Trezor screen. Test with a small amount first. Network mismatches can permanently lose funds, so pause whenever a wallet or exchange displays unfamiliar choices.

06

Keep good security habits

Your private keys remain protected by the device, but habits still matter. Keep firmware and Trezor Suite updated through trusted sources, lock your computer, and use unique passwords for related accounts. A hardware wallet cannot reverse a transfer you approve, protect a compromised email account, or guarantee an investment’s value. Make a habit of reading transaction details on the device display every time, especially the recipient and amount, before confirming.

WHEN YOU’RE READY

Take the next step
at your own pace.

Once setup is complete, you can connect supported accounts and explore additional features at your own pace. Keep your recovery backup separate from your device, and consider a durable backup method if one is available for your model. If the wallet is lost or damaged, the recovery phrase can restore access on a compatible wallet. Never rush a recovery under pressure, and consult official guidance before entering sensitive information anywhere, and take your time.
